Stone Symphony
Sculptural Minimalist Kitchen Design for an Auckland Townhouse
Designed for discerning clients in a compact Auckland townhouse, this bespoke kitchen by Lara Farmilo Design is a masterpiece of minimalist elegance, where furniture, lighting, and stone take centre stage. The clients’ vision was clear: a space that showcases sculptural design, premium finishes, and a striking sink mixer, with no visible handles or vertical appliances to detract from the curated aesthetic.
To achieve this, Lara Farmilo Design integrated all appliances, including the fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and rangehood, ensuring a seamless look. Vertical negatives, colour-matched to the stone-grey cabinetry, and push-to-open mechanisms for drawers, pull-outs, and wall units create a handleless, uncluttered surface. The cabinetry extends to the full 2700mm stud height, maximising storage while accentuating the room’s verticality. Strategically placed LED lighting highlights the craftsmanship, casting a warm glow over the space.

The benchtops and splashback, crafted from grain-matched Dekton Opera, exude sophistication, with the hob bench and splashback meticulously aligned for visual harmony. A timber veneer panel above the hob, housing the extractor, serves as a striking focal point, contrasting beautifully with the stone-grey cabinetry. The sculptural sink mixer adds an artistic touch, elevating the kitchen’s refined aesthetic.
Space constraints, typical of a townhouse built on a standard Auckland section, were expertly navigated. A compact scullery adjacent to the kitchen houses the oven and steam oven, augmenting storage and maintaining the main kitchen’s minimalist appeal. This clever addition ensures functionality without compromising style. Logistical challenges, including narrow, winding stairways, were overcome by delivering cabinetry and benchtops over the balcony, showcasing Lara Farmilo Design’s commitment to precision and problem-solving.

This kitchen is a testament to Lara Farmilo Design’s expertise in crafting high-end, tailored spaces that balance beauty and practicality. The result is a sculptural, minimalist kitchen that transforms the townhouse into a showcase of Auckland luxury.
