Stone Art
When less says more
Lara Farmilo Design was to create three distinctive kitchens for a prestigious project in Remuera. In this development, the client’s vision took center stage—particularly with their love of a unique stone that needed to serve as a focal point throughout the homes.
Two of the residences were intended for resale, so Lara Farmilo’s challenge was to craft spaces that would appeal to a broad and diverse market. The solution was to highlight the striking pattern of the selected porcelain stone, making it the undeniable star of each kitchen. To ensure the stone’s beauty could truly shine, everything surrounding it was designed to be subtle, warm, and inviting.

A standout feature in these kitchens is the book-matched splashback, which elevates the space’s aesthetic and reinforces the porcelain's role as the hero. The carefully curated backdrop allows the bold pattern of the stone to take center stage, creating a space that is both sophisticated and welcoming.
The use of a Gaggenau induction hob with a built-in extractor meant that overhead cabinetry was unnecessary. This design choice emphasized the height of the room, making the space feel more open and airy. Complementing this, floor-to-ceiling tall units sit snugly under a custom-built bulkhead, further enhancing the room's sense of proportion and grandeur.

Lara Farmilo’s approach beautifully balances drama and restraint, resulting in three kitchens that are not only visually stunning but also versatile enough to appeal to a wide audience. The project exemplifies bold design elements with subtle elegance, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary culinary retreats.
