For this new build, Lara Farmilo Design was tasked with creating a spacious, functional kitchen that serves as the heart of the residence. The design extends beyond the main culinary zone, seamlessly integrating a high-specification scullery and laundry area to provide a well-organized solution for the daily needs of a growing family.
The architecture of the kitchen’s rear wall was a focal point of the design. By omitting traditional architraves, the stone work and cabinetry were meticulously engineered to wrap around all four sides of the window. This deliberate architectural choice frames the small garden outside, effectively transforming the exterior view into a living, ever-changing piece of art for the occupants to enjoy.
Spatial planning for the central island involved a critical decision regarding seating and flow. Given the home's long and narrow layout, a large island footprint would have encroached on the entranceway and disrupted the clean sightline leading through to the pool. Consequently, a sculptural "box" design was chosen, which maintains the home’s sense of proportion while preserving the visual continuity of the galley-style space.
Material selection was key to balancing luxury with everyday practicality. Silver Roots leathered marble was chosen for the island, wrapping all three sides to create a striking, monolithic centerpiece. To ensure long-term durability in the working zones, this delicate stone was complemented by Dekton Sandik, a robust, high-performance material applied to all other benchtops and the floating stone shelf, grounding the design with functional elegance.
The final element of the design was the careful selection of appliances to uphold the kitchen’s fully-integrated aesthetic. Liebherr fridge and freezer units were specified to blend seamlessly into the bespoke cabinetry, while the client’s existing free-standing unit was relocated to the scullery for extra storage. To complete the professional-grade setup, Gaggenau cooking appliances were selected for their ability to integrate flawlessly with the refined material palette, ensuring both superior performance and a sleek, cohesive finish.
